Happy Halloween!

I had a great time making the costumes this year.  Both kids picked their costumes.  Maeve went with the princess, Sleeping Beauty and Rory is a Robot.  Anya kept warm in Rory's Mouse costume that I made in 2006.

Headbands and the Amusement Park

We've been learning how to keep the processors on Anya's head.  I modified a few headbands to hold the processors in place.  Here is a link to a few pictures of the head band and the processors on her head. You can see that they are pretty large and would fall right off her little ears. http://picasaweb.google.com/rachelodriscoll/AnyaBand#

On Saturday, August 21, we spent the day at Idlewild Park in Ligonier, PA.  Many of our friends from Point Park Children's School went too.  We had a great time.  Anya managed to keep her processors on all day thanks the to the modified headbands.  The head bands are not perfect...because we lost one...for a few minutes.  We found it dangling in a sewer/storm water grate.  It was dark and crowded.  Thankfully, we programmed the warning light to blink when there is a problem...such as the processor is hanging in a sewer/storm water grate!  I wish we had a picture of that!

A deaf child can dance to music? Amazing!

I came across this video of this little boy who was born deaf. He received his first Cochlear Implant at 11 months and his second at 16 months. Here he is dancing to Lady Gaga at 18 months.

It's just amazing because I never imagined that Anya would be able to dance to music.   This little boy is super cute...just imagine Anya bustin' a move like him in 10 months! (ps. pause my playlist so you can hear the video)

Just me and my blah-ogg. My bloggy and me.

So, I have this blog, but I can't figure out how to share it. Not that it matters much, because I haven't posted anything interesting to share. I could have mentioned that Anya's bilateral CI surgery was a success and her right implant is activated. Hopefully, on Thursday, her left implant will be activated. I did try to send an email to tell my family about this new blog. I even sent it to myself so I'd see what the email looked like. Nothing arrived...I'll try again today.

I've done it! I'm a blogster.

Ok, so I have been thinking about creating a blog to share our adventures. As the title implies, the purpose of the blog is to document Anya's journey into hearing. But also, I want this to be about her big sister Maeve and brother Rory too. And the whole family for that matter, the dog Bela too, I guess. So that's it for my first blog entry.
